Dame Quentin Bryce speaks on the Art of William Robertson

22 March 2023 @ 10:15 am11:00 am

Community Spirit: A gathering to hear the stories around us

In the first of these events for this year, Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO, former Governor of Queensland, former Governor-General of Australia and member of our congregation, is coming to speak about the art of William Robinson. Dame Quentin’s association, indeed friendship, with Bill and his wife Shirley spans decades and was founded in their mutual love of art, classical music and passion for nature. Dame Quentin recognised his artistic genius long before others and has curated several of his exhibitions, including a stunning grand scale exhibition of Robinson’s “Lyrical Landscapes” at HOTA gallery at the Gold Coast last year.

Through his paintings there is a love of Australian landscapes, of the beauty of the natural world along with other works of great whimsy and sometimes chaotic absurdity. The soul of what Robinson brings to his paintings is, in the words of one admiring critic, ‘a sort of permanent question mark about the meaning of life, and the human condition.’

Join us for a morning tea with Dame Quentin and a conversation about William Robinson and the genius of his art. Please let the office know if you are attending.
