Movie Afternoon: We are no longer shadows

5 June 2022 @ 3:00 pm4:30 pm

Did you know that Murray Island in the Torres Strait is the location of the first moving image recorded in Australia and the first ethnographic film in the world?

Reconciliation Week is bookended by the recollection of two key dates in the shared story of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people:

  1. 27 May marks the 1967 Referendum in which 93% voted ‘yes’ to Indigenous people being recognised as citizens.
  2. 3 June marks Mabo Day, in which the idea of Terra Nullius (unoccupied land) was legally overturned.

Join us for a screening of the documentary We are no longer shadows, followed by a cuppa and chat.
