Street Care Inc. is committed to addressing food insecurity and supporting disadvantaged families in Brisbane through its Community Cupboard program. This initiative provides access to very low cost, nutritious food for individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, aiming to alleviate hunger and reduce the risk of homelessness.
The Community Cupboard program is designed to:
- Ensure access to essential food items for individuals and families in need.
- Promote food security and overall well-being within the community.
- Support individuals facing financial hardship, unemployment, or housing instability.
- Reduce food waste through partnerships with local businesses and organisations.

All food hampers are distributed to families in need via several referral pathways. The Community Cupboard runs in partnership with the Thread Together program, expanding our reach and impact through clothing support. Volunteers assist in creating and handing out these hampers, along with making a coffee and having a friendly chat.
Would you like to volunteer?
The Community Cupboard program operates every Monday 10:00 am – 2:00 pm in the St Andrew’s Anglican Church Undercroft. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the Parish Office for more information about training, volunteer guidelines and registration.
How can I get a food hamper?
Similar to Thread Together, you need to be referred to this service. Please contact Rev’d Sue Grimmett or your service agency (such as Communify, Anglicare, school social worker or chaplain) for a referral. Hampers are prepared in advance for specific referrals.
